Hi, My name is Larry Bailey. Im a member of the Nitro madness Fuel Altered Team. I live in Des Moines, Iowa with my wife Lisa and daughters Alayna & Andrea. I also have a son Michael in Washington, DC and a daughter Michelle that lives in Clarksville, TN with her husband Stephen.
I am the production manager for a reproduction auto parts manufacturer called Specialty Reproductions. I was an automotive technician for the 23 years preceding this position, with the last 11 years at a local Cadillac dealership where I achieved the level of Cadillac Master Craftsman and Master Service Advisor. I have also been an ASE Master Technician since 1975.
I have been an avid motorsports enthusiast for as long as I can remember. My parents would take me to the local drag strip or dirt oval several times each summer to watch the races. When I was 8 years old I started doing lawnmower repair for people in our neighborhood. At 11 I started fooling around with motorcycles. I got my first car (a 1962 Chevy II Nova) at age 14. By age 16 I had a Corvair Spyder turbocharger on my Nova blowing through 3 1 barrel carbs on a home-made intake manifold. I had a lot of fun with that little car!
I have always wanted to be involved with the racing industry. The reason that I enjoy drag racing so much is that it is like a chess game. Each team is trying to wring as much power as they can out of their machines, getting that power to the ground, and making it all stay together while the driver uses his skills to get the vehicle down the track first and in one piece!
I feel lucky to have the opportunity to work on the Nitro Madness Fuel Altered along with other fine members of our team and am looking forward to a successful racing season!
