Long Island, New York has a rich
tradition in motorsports and drag
racing in particular. For example,
we had gasser greats Jack Merkel
and “Coney Island” Ralph Landolfi.
In funny car racing there was Jim
Maybeck’s line of “Screaming
Eagle” Chevrolets, Casey Powell’s
A&P Automotive sponsored “New
Yorker” funny cars as well as
“Broadway“ Freddy De Name’s
Mustangs, Camaro and Skylark
bodied machines as well as Bob
Barry’s “Ice Maker” Chargers and
the “Rolling Thunder” Monza. In
Pro Stock we had Richie Zul, Scott
Shafiroff, John and son Vincent
Nobile as well as Mountain Motor
representative John Montecalvo.
We cannot leave out Top Fuel –
most notably we had the Giannini
Brothers who had the first Top
Fuel dragster on Long Island as
well as a very early try at a rear
engine dragster. Speaking of rear
engine dragsters, Bernie Schacker
who had one of the first successful
rear engine dragsters before Don
Garlits perfected his. In fact it was
the first one in the 6 second zone.
All of this leads us to the Lynch
brothers originally from Brooklyn,
New York.
Billy, Bobby and Matt were born
and raised in Brooklyn and loved
tinkering with cars. They are
Billy & Bobby Lynch with car.
